RE: Chip for Supernova?

This is the one I have decided to go with, a buddy of mine who runs the International 4000 chassis on 3 of his delivery trucks uses their module with great results and no problems so far..
I ordered one for my new Supernova 6400 and I will post my before/after results once I have put a few miles on the new rig.
I want to load it up and get all my weights recorded and then get some kind of baseline for performance and MPG before the chip and then try to get a fair comparison after installing the chip... Won’t be scientific but I’m sure the results will be interesting..
http://www.workhorsemodule.com/RV_Truck.htmlThey do not have a listing in the Medium Duty/RV section for the VT 365. Are you using the one for the 6.0L Fords ?

RE: Super Nova 6400 - need your opinions!

As for the engine noise, yep, it is loud when the cooling fan cuts in (between 190 and 210 degrees), but, I do not find it to be any louder than the Kodiak was. Yea, right. Why did they have to add a noise insulation package if it was so quiet ?

RE: Les Swab (swindler)

It will not be long until your tires will be checked for the date code also. The tire mfg's are trying to get all tires replaced regardless of tread at 5-7 year intervals. They will be checked for state inspections and at tire stores.
It is no wonder that some of these places get away with what they do when you read some of the replies to this topic.

RE: Super Nova 6400 - need your opinions!

Gosh, I TRIED to love this coach, but after driving it - GOOD GRIEF.
I currently have an Alfa See Ya Gold 40 foot Class A, and I was attracted to the SuperNova because of the sleeping configuration (we have five kids). But, then I drove it...
It is a DISASTER - we were bouncing all over the road, particularly in the back. Maybe this is normal for a Class C (or any chassis that is not on airbags), but it was also unacceptable.
Very disappointing - I kept asking myself, “is it really that bad?” and the answer kept coming back “yes, it is that bad.”
I wonder if there is any way to put airbags on this chassis? If not, oh, well, better luck next time...
Oh, BTW, the coach had a lot of little nit picky problems - the carpet was coming up, the seat cushion velcro backing came loose from frame, and other little things.... Maybe that is why the coach was almost 30% off.How noisy was the engine compared to your Alfa ?

RE: KVAR Energy Controller Electric Savings ?

This should be easy to test. Each of my compressors draw 17 amps as checked with a clamp meter. So if I put the clamp meter over the feed line coming into the panel I should see a draw of 34 amps plus other loads. If you then turn on the controller and the amps drop to lets say 32, would the meter be spinning slower ?

Not at all. In the hands of a skilled salesman they are very effective in generating commissions and profit.Good One. :)

RE: KVAR Energy Controller Electric Savings ?

Is it really for motors under full load like an air conditioner or is this for motors that are running but waiting for a load such as a table saw or sander? It was demonstrated on a 1/2 HP motor running with no load on 110 volts.

I wonder how the sales people make the clamp meter show that the motor is drawing less amps when the controller is switched on ?

RE: KVAR Energy Controller Electric Savings ?

I'm an EE for an electric utility.
The electro-mechanical meter described measures kWh. There is no compensation or multiplication needed, since only the in phase components of current and voltage work to turn the disc. In the electro-mechanical world, the utility would install a second meter to measure the kVArh, with one of the quantities shifted by 90 degrees. Today, electronic meters are used so a single meter can be used on industrial loads. All meters are ANSI rated at 0.5% or better tolerance.
The mix of loads in a typical residence has a pretty consistent pf. It is more cost effective for all to simply factor that into the rates and not spend the money to meter it. For industrial loads, the pf is far more variable.
It is true that utilities install capacitors in order to improve efficiency. But we are talking about miles of wire. The difference in losses between a pf corrected home and the uncorrected home will be tiny. The improvement will be on the utility side.
Demand metering does not equal kVArh metering. Demand is something else that industrial customers get to have.
The best scams provide you with true statements, and only lie by omission. Thanks for your reply. So I guess your saying they these devices do nothing ?

RE: toe in is that for both tires or one?

Alignment machines measure toe in for each wheel since they are independently adjustable. But toe in is always stated in total. So if your car has 1/16" of toe in, each wheel is toed in 1/32" from 0. And as a previous poster noted this does not apply to cars trying to turn left on purpose. :)

RE: KVAR Energy Controller Electric Savings ?

There are two types of electric meters in common use. One measures KWhr consumption and the second measures what is known as "demand". If your load consists of a lot of motors, your demand billing will be higher than your KWhr billing. It is possible, as was stated above, to "correct your power factor", which will result in lowering your demand and bringing it closer to your KWhr. KWhr is kilowatts (times hours) and demand is kilovars. If your power factor is 100%, kilowatts is exactly equal to kilovars. If you are running motors, it reduces your power factor below 100% and thus raises your demand, or kilovars. In electrical engineering terms, watts are known as resistive loads, while vars are reactive loads. The two types of reactive loads are motors and capacitors. On vector drawings the two reactive loads cancel each other out, thus motor loads are cancelled out by capacitors, thus resulting in a resistive load made up of watts with no vars. It is a legitimate concept. My company does power factor installations for large manufacturing plants. The one we are working on right now will save the customer over $100,000.00 a year in electric bills. Obviously the savings in a residence must be smaller. It is hard to tell if it would be worth doing on a home. It does, however, help the power company. So how can I tell which type electric meter I have ? Mine looks like the standard glass dome with a spinning disc. What you said about business usage was what made me believe it could result in a possible savings. The sales person had a testimonial from a business owner who is a friend of a friend. The guy is not the type to give a non factual testimonial where it was saving his business $1K per month. They run mostly motors.

RE: AT&T Aircard speed

As long as you can get 3G it is as fast or faster than my Sprint DSL. I use a tethered Blackjack. Most metro areas have 3G. Without it it is about like dial up. I had Sprint which really sucked. Very happy with ATT coverage, customer service, etc. The $60 data plan is pro-rated so I can turn it on and off for a weekend, etc. Please tell me which plan you have that can be turned on and off. Every ATT plan I checked was a 2 year contract with no turn off options. I just want it on during the summer.

Most of my electric bill is from motors running as I heat and cool with a Geothermal system. Well pump, compressors, air handler fan etc.

KVAR Energy Controller Electric Savings ?

Saw these energy controllers which connect to your service panel and are supposed to save electric if you are running a lot of motors. It is said to be some sort of system of capacitors and such. Seemed like smoke and mirrors except they said you will only save on the portion of your bill that is being used by motors. Anyone have any experience with these.

RE: Ipod help needed - What to I do?

Don't get hung up on iPod. There are many other players that will do all you want at a better price. Since you're not concerned with 'portability' you have a great choice out there. I'll second that. As an owner of 2 iPODS , I will not be the owner of a third.

RE: hershey rv show

Thats because nobody wants to humpup and down the steps to the vendors down on the floor.Go in the lower entrance and there are no stairs to climb.
There were several open spaces on the hockey rink. I just can't believe there are not more accessory sales booths at the show. If you need insurance, a loan or pots and pans there are plenty of choices. Otherwise very little. Hope everyone got one of those BIG SALE Honda 2000 generators that Camping World was selling for $100 more plus tax than you can buy most anywhere. :)Then you had to lug it to the car.
I also thought the outside show had less displays and fewer units than previous years.

RE: Jayco Embark

There is no handrail to hang on to at any point and there are about 6 or 7 steps to navigate.
As we sat in the unit watching people enter and exit almost everyone mentioned the lack of a handrail. The Embark at the Hershey show had a hand rail on the left side as you enter. It is a bolt to the floor type. It may not have been installed yet when you were in.
